About Jenny Perkel

I graduated as a clinical psychologist from the University of Cape Town in 1996. Since then I’ve gained many years of clinical experience across a range of different mental health problems.

I am registered as a clinical psychologist, both in the United Kingdom (HCPC – PYL044365) and in South Africa (HPCSA – PS0054399). I offer private online consultations to anyone who is struggling mentally or emotionally. This includes those who are experiencing stress, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I offer in-person consultations in Cape Town (South Africa) and also occasionally in Guildford, Surrey and London (U.K.).

My main area of interest is working with parents, children and teenagers. Online consultations are not well suited to children, so I can only see them in-person. However, online consultations are offered to parents. Through detailed discussion of a child’s difficult or confusing behaviour, I aim to guide parents towards a better understanding of the problems that the child is experiencing. In this way, parents gain insight into what is causing their children’s emotional and behavioural problems. Together, the parents and I can explore the most effective ways to help their children.

Some of the difficulties I commonly work with include:

Neurodiversity, especially ASD and ADHD

Anxiety, fears, phobias and stress

Low self-esteem, poor self-confidence

Behavioural problems

Mood swings and depression

Emotional dysregulation

I use an integrative approach to psychotherapy, drawing from a range of evidence-based theoretical models. These include psychoanalytic theories, narrative therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy.
